Speaking with confidence
Do you avoid public speaking because you get so nervous that the words won't come out?
Have you ever felt that you might have lost a sales pitch or a management issue because your voice presentation let you down?
Would you like to project the assurance that people with large, resonant voices seem to have?
A short number of sessions can help to prepare your voice:
- Breathing and relaxation for support
- Flexibility to increase your dynamic range and avoid a monotonous tone
- Muscularity to be able to articulate consonants clearly
- Resonance to produce a ringing tone
- Projection to enable you to be heard across a room
My experience comes from over 25 years' of voice training, primarily in singing. I passed exams in Singing and Solo Acting at Grade 8 with Merit of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music in 1991.
I've delivered presentations, classes, speeches and papers throughout my professional life. I've often been required to speak off the cuff and to lead meetings.
I now belong to Toastmasters' International through membership of East Midlands Speakers Club. I've already received the Competent Communicator award, the first in the club to do so, and have embarked on the Advanced Communication manuals. I'll admit that I was sceptical about Toastmaster programmes and the relevance of peer evaluation at first, but have learnt a great deal along the way about constructing a speech or presentation, how to use the voice, and how to relate to an audience.
Speeches and presentations work best when they are audience centred. Mastering the techniques of the performer can do wonders for your business presentations.
